MONTY PYTHON AND ME
My love of Monty Python started in the 1970's when I first saw the show on the BBC. Who would have thought that over the years I had met and worked with them all! Derek.
I first worked on 'Privates on Parade' ( 1982) with John Cleese. Then 'The Missionary' ( 1982) with Michael Palin.
I worked on 'Personal Services' ( 1987) and later auditioned for Terry Jones for 'A Wind In the Willows'(1996). Sadly which I did not get!
'A Fish Called Wanda' (1988) with Michael Palin and John Cleese.
TERRY GILLIAM
TERRY GILLIAM AND ME ON 17TH AUGUST 2018 IN SOHO
Today was so pleased to meet Terry Gilliam whom I have not seen since working at Lee International Studios in Wembley. I was working on 'The Last Place on Earth ' as a stand-in/ acting 3rd AD in 1985.
Terry was filming 'BRAZIL' in the studio next door. We chatted during tea breaks most days.
This always happens to me wherever I am anywhere, met many Artiste such as Terry! Spotted Terry crossing the road towards me . I said Hi Terry! How are you? He replied I'm not dead yet !! LOL! He has such a genuine guy!
We chatted for 10 minutes about his film 'The Man who Killed Don Quixote' .
He told me that it's being shown everywhere apart from the UK. That's a terrible shame I said.
Mentioned that I had he book signed by him! He said "GREAT !" And was so happy with this!
I told Terry that I meet Terry Jones at Kate Bush concert a few years ago. The story of my audition for The Wind In The Willows which Terry Jones directed and starred. TG said that Terry Jones was not too well now.
During our conversation I said I was excited to get my Bus pass in a months time.
He then took out his brown leather wallet and said "Derek, this is gold to me! " While showing his Freedom pass !! LOL!
What an amazing director and creative genius! Also a very friendly man too!
I mentioned to Terry Gilliam that I was an actor and gave my card and he said he wound be in contact soon for a chat and coffee.
I asked Terry if I could give him a hug and we both did this, then went on my journey.
Python wishes!
